Nexans Olex wins supply of cable for major Sydney rail project
Melbourne, January 15, 2019 – Nexans Olex is proud to have been awarded the Sydney Metro Northwest project for the supply of low-voltage power and control cable. The project is currently under construction, with the new railway open in the middle of 2019.
The Sydney Metro Northwest project (https://www.sydneymetro.info/northwest/project-overview) is the first stage of Sydney Metro, which is being extended into the city and beyond to the south west, as well as a proposed metro line between the Sydney CBD and Greater Parramatta. Sydney Metro Northwest will deliver 13 metro railway stations with 4,000 commuter car parking spaces and includes 15km twin tunnels between Bella Vista and Epping and a 4km elevated skytrain viaduct between Bella Vista and Rouse Hill.
Nexans Olex has supplied Alsecure Low Smoke Zero Halogen Fire Resistant cable for installation into the rail tunnels. Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) cables are imperative for tunnelling projects. In the case of a fire emergency, unlike standard cables, LSZH cables do not give off dark smoke and halogen fumes which severely hinder emergency evacuations. Alsecure is fire resistant, as opposed to just flame retardant, which ensures circuit integrity under fire conditions making them a much safer alternative in an emergency scenario.
Nexans Olex were awarded this contract largely due the ability to place the customer at the forefront; an example of compliance to the corporate value ‘Think Customer’. Given the volatile nature of copper pricing, the team remained in very close contact with the customer to ensure their target for price was met. This process was much appreciated by the customer and demonstrated a collaborative approach to the customer-supplier relationship.
Another great display of teamwork is the promise for on-time delivery or DIFOT (delivered in full on time) which is imperative for the success of any project. This was thoroughly managed by the dedicated project coordinators at Nexans Olex, with the final delivery to Sydney Metro Northwest now complete.
We at Nexans Olex are proud of our project teams. They ensure a high level of trust and reliability throughout project coordination and execution. Our people, products, and knowledge within the cable industry ensure that throughout every project, your business can TrustOlex.
