Nexans wins a 15 million Euro power cable contract

Nexans will supply MV and LV power cables for Vietnam’s

Paris, February 22, 2007 - Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has been awarded a contract worth approximately 15 million Euro to supply medium (MV) and low voltage (LV) power cables for Vietnam’s first crude oil refinery, to be located in Dung Quat, south of Da Nang in central Vietnam. This project is being commissioned by Technip, one of the major corporations in the field of oil, gas and petrochemical engineering, construction and services, and the leader in a consortium with Japan Gas Corporation and Tecnicas Reunidas, on behalf of Vietnam Oil & Gas Corporation (Petrovietnam).

For the Dung Quat refinery project, Nexans will supply approximately 1,400 km of  medium and low voltage power cables. The cables will be installed underground to supply power for the contractors involved in the construction of the refinery and then for the refinery itself.

The Oil & Gas market is very dynamic in terms of investments in the Asia-Pacific region and Nexans is fully committed to supporting this sector. The Group is able to mobilize several production facilities in different countries to ensure that we can guarantee the quality of customer service required in such short-term projects. For this specific project in Vietnam, quality and reliability are really the key words” says Michel Lemaire, Executive Vice-president for Nexans’ Asia-Pacific Area.

The Dung Quat project includes both the refinery and the crude oil import facilities. This refinery is designed to have a processing capacity of 145,000 BPSD (Barrels Per Stream Day), which will serve Vitetnam’s domestic market and reduce the country’s oil product imports.

The cables will be manufactured by Nexans plants in Vietnam, Korea and France. They should be delivered and installed from January to September 2007. Mechanical completion of the refinery should occur in 2008.
