Nexans wins a 2 million Euro contract to supply power cables for Tunisia’s new Enfidha Airport

Paris, April 23rd, 2009 – Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has been awarded a contract worth approximately 2 million euros by Tepe AkfenVentures (TAV), the leading airports operator in Turkey, to supply the power cables for the terminal building at Tunisia’s new Enfidha Airport.

TAV, the global contractor responsible for the construction of Enfidha airport, has ordered both low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) power cables for the terminal building from Nexans in Turkey. Cables will be supplied by different production units of Nexans Group.

The key to winning this important contract was strong collaboration and coordination between the sales management teams and manufacturing units across all the countries within Nexans involved in this major international project in order to provide best-in-class solutions to our customer” said Paolo Pieri, Nexans’ Airport Infrastructure Business Segment Manager. For airport infrastructure, Nexans provides a complete range of cables from energy and communication networks to multiple terminals and hangars, control tower and runways. In order to optimize safety, security and efficiency within the airport, Nexans supplies high and medium voltage underground power cables to feed all vital airport applications, low voltage power cables for weather beacons, fiber optic cable for radar control networks, and flexible halogen-free control and power cables for baggage handling systems.

About Enfidha Airport

The new Enfidha Airport is situated approximately 80 km south of the capital city Tunis, and is intended to be an architectural and aesthetic wonder. It will also boast the latest technology and first class facilities and services, both for passengers and the airlines themselves. The terminal will cover an area of 90,000 m² and is designed to handle 7 million passengers per annum. However, with future expansion it is expected to be handling up to 22 million travelers per year by the middle of the century. Construction work on the new Enfidha International Airport began in June 2007. Completion is expected in October 2009.
