Nexans power, signalling and instrumentation cables installed in Terminal 3 at Moscow’s Sheremetevo airport

Paris, November 19, 2008 – Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has supplied 3 million Euro worth cables, for the construction of the new terminal at Moscow’s Sheremetevo airport – Russia’s largest international airport.

Nexans provided around 500 kilometres of cables, comprising of power network, signalling and instrumentation cables. The cables were manufactured by Nexans Turkey in its Denizli and Tuzla factories.

The cables selected for the airport will be installed by the main contractors participating in the project: SITA, ThyssenKrupp and Vanderlande Industries. SITA will provide IT systems that will allow the airport’s self-service and desk check-in facilities to process up to 3,800 passengers per hour. Boarding bridges will be provided by ThyssenKrupp, and Vanderlande Industries will supply the automated baggage handling system. Nexans is also supplying special cables for some of these applications.

For airport infrastructure , Nexans provides a complete range of cables from key energy and communication networks to multiple terminals and hangars, control tower and runways. In order to optimize safety, security and efficiency within the airport, Nexans supplies high and medium voltage underground power cables to feed all vital airport applications, low voltage power cables for weather beacons, fibre optic cable for radar control networks, and flexible halogen-free control and power cables for baggage handling systems.

About Sheremetevo Terminal 3

The new terminal – which is being constructed for Russia’s national airline, Aeroflot – will cost in the region of 340 million Euros. It is situated about 29 kilometres north-west of Moscow, and is due for completion by the end of this year. Passengers will begin using it by March 2009. will serve Aeroflot and other members of the Sky Team Alliance including: Alitalia, Air France, Delta, KLM and Korean Air.
