Nexans Olex has been awarded the supply of Medium Voltage Eco-Term barrier cable to Coleambally Solar Farm. Nexans Olex was appointed to supply the MV termite-barrier cable solution through a strong, supplier and customer working relationship.

Coleambally Solar Farm (https://coleamballysolarfarm.com.au/), located 5km north east of Coleambally, NSW, is 550 hectares totalling 560,000 solar panels. The farm will generate 380,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy to the national power grid annually. Its major reduction to greenhouse gas emissions is equivalent to removing 90,000 cars from roads, planting over 530,000 trees, and powering 52,000 homes annually. Electricity generated will be transmitted via an underground cabling or overhead transmission to the national grid with a total of 132kV.

Nexans Olex has been working with the customer for approximately two years, and have since built an effective value adding relationship. All MV cable installed features the Eco-Term physical termite barrier as a low cost, environmentally and health conscious alternative to the chemical deterrent, Cypermethrin. This all new termite-barrier is a first to market and consists of Nexans Olex’s Eco-Term Tape 101 which is proven to be an impenetrable barrier to termite attack (resulting from joint research with CSIRO).

To further and better meet the customer requirements, Nexans Olex has provided not only a termite-proof cable barrier solution, but have also have worked with our consortium trenching partners to ensure the customer had a fully installed cable solution – everything from start to finish!

Coleambally Solar Farm was commissioned in 2018.
