Melbourne’s Metro Rail Network Powered by Nexans Flamex®

Nexans Olex has manufactured and delivered over 700,000 metres of Flamex® low-voltage power and control cable for the complete fitout of the “X’trapolis” trainsets.

The new trains increase the Melbourne Metro Rail network capacity from 87 to 101 trainsets, and help to ease commuter congestion and encourage public transport use.

Our Flamex® cables conform to EN and fire performance standards including fire resistance and low toxicity. Additionally, they are thinner and more lightweight than traditional power cables to allow for installation in the limited space available on modern trainsets.

The cables are being manufactured at Nexans facilities in France and Germany and delivered to Australia for local installation and fitout by Alstom.

Nexans Olex was selected because of its global relationship with the installation company and capability to provide exact to specification cables, along with the reputation for quality product and performance.
