Superior performance from coast to coast

Olex are currently involved in a number of landmark projects across the country, providing technical excellence and superior cable solutions.
Brisbane CityGrid Project
Olex are supplying cable for one of southeast Queensland’s largest ever electricity capital works projects.
Energex, in a joint venture with Powerlink, will upgrade substations, transmission lines and feeder cables to service the Brisbane CBD and inner suburbs as part of the $178.5 million CityGrid Electricity Network Upgrade. The works are designed to cater for the growth in the number of residential and high-rise developments in the Brisbane CBD and meet the growing demand for energy in the coming years.
Olex are providing 1600m2 110kV copper sheathed cables for the project. This cable will be installed underneath central Brisbane’s streets in a 12km route between Charlotte Street substation and the Carindale Terminal Point.
The project is expected to be complete in late 2006.

Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne
After supplying the cable for the Austin Hospital redevelopment in 2005, Olex are again working together with Elecraft to provide the cabling requirements for another major hospital redevelopment.
A new Women’s Hospital is currently being built in Melbourne. The $364 million project will see the relocation of the Royal Women’s Hospital from its current location in Grattan St, Carlton, to a new site next to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Parkville.
Olex will be providing a broad range of cable including XLPE, PVC, Pyrolex Ceramifiable and industrial cable. Importantly, almost two-thirds of the cable provided will consist of fire rated single and multi core. Fire rated cables are invaluable in a building such as this as it will offer circuit integrity of evacuation systems such as lights pumps, and fans in the event of a fire.
Construction of the new hospital began in April 2005 and is now well underway, with the project expected to be complete by the end of 2007.

Perth to Mandurah Rail Line
Olex, in a joint venture with Nexans, are supplying O’Donnell Griffin with cable for the Perth to Mandurah Rail Line Project. The project is part of New MetroRail, a $1.5 billion project that will effectively double Transperth’s rail network.
The Southern Suburbs railway involves the construction of a 72km railway line from Perth CBD to Mandurah, south of Perth and is due for completion in late 2006. Ten stations and new underground platforms at William Street, Perth, will be built as part of the railway.
The cable supplied for this project includes specially manufactured cable with tinned conductors and nylon jackets, which has been manufactured at Olex’s two Melbourne factories in Tottenham and Lilydale.
