Pyrolex cable helps tunnel reopen to public

Olex were able to quickly supply cable for the repairs to Melbourne’s Burnley Tunnel after a recent fire.
On Friday 23 March, an accident in the Burley Tunnel between a number of cars and trucks caused an explosion which resulted in the loss of three lives and caused extensive damage to the road, cabling and lighting inside the tunnel. This resulted in the tunnel being closed to traffic causing major disruptions to Melbourne’s motorists.
Replacement cable was required urgently for the repairs. Transfield Services, who were conducting the repair work, approached Middendorp Melbourne, who in turn contacted Olex. Olex was the only supplier who was able provide the cable in the urgent timeframe required and on a Saturday.
“Olex were extremely impressive in their speed of delivery and understanding of the urgency of the situation. Their excellent customer service assisted us with providing the material for the tunnel repairs,” said Middendorp Melbourne Branch Manager, Tom Reinders. “Shane Ryan from our branch and Kay Davis from the Olex Customer Service Centre worked together to arrange for the cable to be delivered without delay.”
Olex provided approximately 2.5km of Pyrolex cable for the repairs. Pyrolex fire performance cables are specially designed to continue to operate in fire situations, so that essential services are maintained. They are also designed to emit very low levels of smoke, and toxic and corrosive gases (LS0H – Low Smoke Zero Halogen).
