Community Involvement

Olex Australia have teamed with a number of local community groups to support initiatives and programs within our local area to help disadvantaged young people achieve education and training.

Involvement in the community within which we operate is important to Olex. In particular, Olex believes it is important to help the youth gain access to activities and facilities which will equip them with skills, training and information to help them in the future.

Olex is currently successfully involved with the following community groups:

  • SpiritWest Fresh VCAL program
Olex have sponsored the SpiritWest FRESH program over a three year period, commencing in 2007. The program offers its young students a better chance of achieving senior secondary school leaving certificates. Olex’s commitment includes both cash and in-kind support for the program. Site tours and work placements have also been arranged.

Through this partnership we have also developed a 10 week program called the Olex Vocational Education Program. One day per week for 2 hours per day, guest Olex facilitators impart their professional knowledge in engaging ways through specialist workshops, focussing on developing the student’s awareness about the world of work and encourage these students to believe their own abilities.

  • Western Chances
Olex have joined Western Chances to support young people from the western suburbs of Melbourne pursue higher education in the fields of maths, science and engineering. Our partnership with Western Chances is over a three year period, commencing in 2007 and offers students from Year 11/12, Tafe and University student scholarships. We hope by offering this opportunity to support young people in their education, it will encourage them to further develop the technical skills that will allow them to make a future career in Australian manufacturing.

  • Beacon Foundation
Through the Beacon Foundation, Olex have partnered with local schools in our community offering cash and in-kind support. Olex supports the “No Dole” program where Year 10 students sign a charter to commit to either continuing with school, training or to get a job. Our partnered schools so far are: Croydon Community College, Sunshine Secondary College and St. Albans Secondary College. We hope to expand our association into Queensland and New South Wales. Through this partnership nine scholarships have also been awarded for Year 10 students who are hardworking, have a particular talent and are in need of some support.

Olex offers local schools in our community the chance to show their students what a thriving manufacturing facility is all about through our plant site tours and the variety of positions and opportunities that can be available.
